This fall has started out with quite a mix of new experiences amidst the typical back to school routines for the boys and a return to more of a normal work schedule for me. When I first started my weight loss journey, I never envisioned some of the fun opportunities that would come along as a result. To be honest, I think toning down the negative internal voice we all sometimes have is a large part of just being open to good things happening.
Recently, I was so honored to be asked to host an advance screening of the film, Brittany Runs a Marathon. The movie was a perfect fit for me as it was inspirational, funny and eerily relatable! There was a lot in this film that struck close to home in my own fitness journey. I greatly enjoyed hosting the screening in Boston and getting to meet so many new people. I shared a bit about my own story as I introduced the film. I both laughed and cried during the movie and found the story even more poignant knowing that it was based on a true story. The story captured so many of the real struggles and relationship issues that can happen alongside major health and fitness lifestyle changes.
September also brought the bittersweet sendoff of my oldest son back to college. I tell him that I’m happy for him, but sad for me. It was wonderful to have him home for the summer and with all the boys under one roof again, we joked that it was great to “have the band back together.” His college campus is beautiful, and whenever I am there, I always find myself wishing I was back in college myself. I would certainly NOT major in political science again if I had the chance to do it all over. In fact, with all the talk of politics in recent years, I’m politically exhausted. I don’t know what my 18-year-old self was thinking when making that choice!
I’ve enjoyed getting together with friends and have really made it a point to spend time with people who inspire and encourage me. I try to focus on how I feel after I spend time with someone. A personal goal has been to minimize spending my time with energy draining sorts! So far, September has brought some new friends, different experiences (which I can’t wait to share more about with you) and a chance to get dressed up for some special celebrations.
Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons and I’m looking forward to seeing what October brings!
